Privacy Policy

RIP Letters helps you write, store, and prepare private letters and related information for future delivery to people you choose. Our goal is to protect your private content and release it only according to the rules you set.

Who this app is for

RIP Letters is intended for adults 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children. Minors may only appear in an account as a named recipient, added and managed by an adult account holder or their guardian — a minor never creates or controls their own RIP Letters account.

Private content

Letters, final wishes, release notes, and personal instructions are private content. They are encrypted before storage and are only decrypted to display them back to you, to deliver them under your release settings, or to help you if you contact support about your own account.

Service data

Account details, recipients, trusted contacts, check-in history, release status, archive status, and audit logs are used to operate the service — for example, to know when to send a check-in reminder or who to notify if one is missed.

Who we share it with

RIP Letters does not sell personal data. We use a small number of service providers to run the app: a cloud database and authentication provider to store your account and letters securely, and a transactional email provider to send check-in reminders, trusted contact requests, and delivery notifications. They are only permitted to use your data to provide these services to us. Recipients receive only letters addressed to them, and only once your release conditions are met. Trusted contacts see only what's needed to verify whether you're okay — never letter content, unless they're separately named as a recipient.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and its contents by contacting info@ripletters.com. We'll respond within a reasonable time and may need to verify your identity first, given the sensitivity of this data.

Retention

Deleted letters may remain in encrypted backups for up to 60 days before permanent removal. Delivered letters may be retained for up to 6 months afterward for support, resend, audit, or dispute handling, unless you request earlier deletion.

Security incidents

If we ever experience a data security incident that affects your personal information, we will notify affected users and any relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to how we handle your data, we'll notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
